Arranged a fashion shoot with Brette, and we wandered around the park for about 3 hours, a lot of it just hanging out and me taking time to setup and making sure I captured a good image at every stop. That, was a good plan, as we ended up with quite a few awesome images.
And as I became extra interested in post processing techniques as of late, I took my time to actually work on only a few, well composed images, aiming for quality rather than quantity even more so. It’s good because I actually feel less stressed out trying to pump out images, and the fact that each image I work on is actually critically viewed, the resulting images were actually all quite great. For example, the 1st image was about 2 hours in post processing, from the basic magazine preps like blemish removal, skin softening and airbrushing, to more extensive color adjustment, like the cross processing effect that you can see ever so slightly. Granted, I am just starting to learn some of these digital retouching stuff and by no means hardcore like professionals do, but essentially I am trying to achieve what Christy Schuler detailed in her tutorials.
Technical stuff aside, the shoot location and weather turned out be to great as well. As you can see, it was a cloudy day, so the light was even and perfect. The location also has many different clean, beautiful spots for pictures. We ventured from the park to surrounding areas, not only had a great time hanging out while getting pictures taken, but also had a great walk throughout the park, definitely a good workout.
(Above: Brette has a great smile…Hmm, should get more pictures like this)
(Above: shooting from across the street, Old Spaghetti Factory got these awesome brick walls that I just cannot resist. Notice the surveillance camera spying on Brette)
Shooting wise, I focused on getting a clean background this time. Knowing that my lenses cannot achieve as shallow a depth of field as I wanted, I had to focus on other elements that help bring the focus to Brette, and one of them being composition.
In all, I think the shoot wen extremely well, and if the amount of pictures uploaded is of any indication, I think Brette herself likes many pictures from the shoot too. Check out her deviantArt page sometimes if you want to see more of her fabulous clothing design and costumes.
