Wolverine, by T.

Wide-angles are cool, but like everything else, it’s easy to overuse. But in a way, isn’t regular, >= 50mm range also highly used in many images? Or it’s an exception because they are the “standard”?

I don’t think it matters. In the end, what we photographers are after are arts. And through whatever equipment and methods we go about achieving our objectives, are totally up to us. Overuse or not, well, that’s just personal opinions.

POCC as Norway.

The more HHDR I do the more I discover about the technique. One thing I realized from this past shoot was that, to produce clean HDR, it’s important to set the ISO to the lowest possible, e.g. ISO 100, to avoid the occasional high image noise produced after merging those pictures together. I have been using auto ISO on my camera, that I didn’t realize how much of a difference it might make when producing HDR images. So, ISO 100, here I come!

Gambit, by Em. I think it’s Totally. Awesome.

So this past GK I didn’t take as many pictures of as many people I wanted, It was just kind of a more about hanging out rather than doing photo ops, but I still did 2 mini shoots with Em, T, Mary, and POCC & Aya, as you can see in the galleries. Turned out, the sunset really worked out great and gave me some of my favorite shots, many of them silhouette.

Well, enjoy the pix.

X-Men’s Gambit, by Em.

I didn’t visualize this in my mind when I took the three exposures, but by merging 2 exposures rather than 3 into a HDR image, I got this.

Makes sense, though, because the +1 that shows most of the detail in the shadowed area is in the formula, and as a result, those areas stayed in the shadow, which is exactly what I wanted when I said “I want a silhouette shot”.

Posted on: January 25th, 2010 Space Needle

What’s the benefit of having a cosplay gathering at a popular tourism location? You get to take pictures of both. This, was the case for January 2010’s Gasukan, and I very much enjoyed taking pictures of the Seattle center, and particularly the Space Needle, albeit the fact that there are probably millions of pictures of SN scattered throughout the Internet.

Nevertheless, handheld HDR as usual, with a wonderfully cloudy sky with no rain. It was a good day.
